Privacy Policy

Overview

Oriel is a home security camera app designed with your privacy at its core. We believe your home video should stay in your home.

Data Collection

Oriel uses peer-to-peer (P2P) streaming. Video feeds are transmitted directly between your devices and are never routed through our servers. Recorded clips are stored locally on the camera device by default. You may optionally enable cloud backup via Cloudflare R2, in which case recordings are encrypted and stored in your personal cloud storage bucket. You control whether cloud backup is enabled.

On-Device Processing

AI features including person detection and motion alerts run entirely on your device using on-device models. No video data is sent to external servers for processing.

Device Permissions

The app requires the following permissions:

• Camera — For streaming video from the camera device
• Microphone — Optional, for audio streaming
• Local Storage — For saving recorded clips locally on the camera device
• Local Network — For device discovery and peer-to-peer connection
• Notifications — For motion and person detection alerts

Account Information

Oriel requires an account to pair your devices. We collect your email address and an encrypted password through Firebase Authentication (operated by Google). This information is used solely for device pairing and is not shared with third parties.

What We Collect

We collect minimal data to operate and improve the app:

• Email address — For account creation and device pairing (via Firebase Authentication by Google)
• Crash reports — For app stability (via Firebase Crashlytics by Google)
• Usage analytics — Anonymous app usage data to improve features (via Firebase Analytics by Google)
• Push notification tokens — For delivering motion and person detection alerts (via Firebase Cloud Messaging by Google)

We do not collect, store, or access your video footage. We will never sell your personal data to third parties. This is a non-negotiable company policy.

If you signed up for email notifications on our website, we store your email address solely for that purpose.

Data Retention & Your Rights

Account data is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from within the app. Upon deletion, your email address and account information are permanently removed from our systems.

Recordings are stored locally on your camera device by default. If you enable cloud backup, recordings are stored in Cloudflare R2. You can disable cloud backup or delete cloud recordings at any time. We do not access your recordings regardless of where they are stored.

Children's Privacy

Oriel is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. While the app can be used as a baby monitor, the account holder must be an adult.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
